This beautifully illustrated book presents 595 objects and fragments that were made in the Islamic world from the eighth to the 11th centuries. Each entry consists of a color photograph and a detailed description, usually accompanied by a comment on the history and significance of the object and by a listing of similar pieces in other collections. Most of the pieces presented here were in the collection of Ray Winfield Smith, who acquired an extensive assortment of fragments and display pieces.
