The design for these earrings is based on an image from volume one of Shokuban ruisan, a series of 10 volumes, published in Tokyo in 1893, devoted to the art of weaving. Compiled by the Imperial Household Museum in Tokyo, this series offers spectacular color plates of different weaving patterns. This rare set of books is from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum Art Reference Library.
