Nishapur: Glass
of the Early Islamic Period
By Jens Kroger
The city of Nishapur, in eastern Iran, was a place of political importance in medieval times and a flourishing center of art, crafts, and trade. This book looks at the site at Nishapur, which was excavated in the 1930s and 1940s and yielded glass objects of outstanding quality. In addition, Robert H. Brill of The Corning Museum of Glass uses chemical analyses to shed further light on the glass found at the excavation site. The book also contains a map and site plans, a glossary, a concordance, and an extensive bibliography.
